Tiled roofs, done properly, on Bristol homes.

New tiled roof installations, tile matching for repairs, and traditional detailing in concrete, clay and interlocking tile.

Bristol tiled roofs

The tile choice matters more than most people realise.

Concrete interlocking tiles are cheap, quick to lay, and durable. Clay plain tiles are more expensive and slower to lay, but they age beautifully and are the right visual match for older Bristol streets. Pantiles have a distinctive curved profile that suits certain properties and looks out of place on others.

We work with all of them. If you’re replacing a roof on a Victorian or Edwardian terrace, we’ll usually recommend a tile that fits the age and character of your home. If it’s a modern build, we’ve more flexibility.

Tile types

What we install.

Concrete, clay, and reclaimed matching for repairs.

Concrete interlocking

Efficient and cost-effective. Wide range of colours and profiles. The go-to for modern Bristol homes and larger installations.

Clay plain and pantile

Traditional, characterful, and long-lasting. The right match for older Bristol streets where concrete would look wrong.

Reclaimed and tile matching

For repairs where the existing tile is out of production, we source matching reclaimed stock so the repair blends in.

What we do on every tiled roof.

The details make the difference between a roof that lasts 25 years and one that lasts 60.

  • Dry ridge and dry verge as standard, not mortared.
  • Correct headlap and gauge for the tile you've chosen.
  • Roofshield breather membrane, or equivalent.
  • New treated battens on every job.
  • Ridge and hip lines finished level, tile by tile.
  • Colour and profile matched carefully for repairs.

How to tell your tiles need attention.

Not sure whether your tiled roof needs work? These are the things to look for.

  • More than one or two slipped tiles visible from the ground.
  • Cracked or crumbling mortar along the ridge.
  • Heavy moss and algae, especially on north-facing slopes.
  • Missing tiles at the verge or exposed felt showing.
  • Uneven appearance where the roof has started to dip.
  • Damp patches inside near external walls.
FAQ

Tiled roof questions, answered.

Concrete or clay tiles, what should I choose?
Clay looks better and lasts longer, especially on a period property. Concrete is cheaper, faster to lay, and comes in a wider range of profiles and colours. The right choice usually depends on the age and style of the house.
Can you match tiles for a repair?
Yes. For older tiles that are no longer made, we source reclaimed stock so the repair blends in with the rest of the roof. It takes a bit longer than using a modern replacement, but the finish is worth it.
What's a dry ridge and do I need one?
A dry ridge system uses mechanical fixings instead of mortar to hold the ridge tiles in place. It's now the Building Regulations preference because mortared ridges tend to crack and let water in over time. All our new roofs use dry ridge as standard.
How long do concrete tiles last?
A well-fitted concrete tile roof lasts 40 to 60 years. Clay tiles often longer. The membrane and battens usually fail before the tiles themselves, which is why a full re-roof is sometimes needed even when the tiles look fine.
Can I re-use my existing tiles on a new roof?
Sometimes. If your existing tiles are sound and not too weathered, we can lift them, replace everything underneath, and re-lay them. It saves the cost of new tiles and keeps the appearance of the roof consistent.
Do you offer a guarantee?
Yes. Through the Confederation of Roofing Contractors (No. 8523) we can offer a 10-year Insurance-Backed Guarantee on all new tiled roof installations, on top of the manufacturer's warranty on the tiles themselves.

These guys replaced our roof that was leaking & falling in on itself in a Victorian terrace in central Bristol. Not an easy job as our house is very skewed (no 90 degree angles whatsoever) but they did a brilliant job. We ended up going with a full dormer, they took down our chimney breast so we had more room & built/sealed the flat roof section with a 25 year guarantee. They gave us some advice on what to do with the front bay as that was shot too.Ollie was incredibly helpful & always pleasant/in a good mood on the job. Really enjoyed having a cup of tea with him & the guys he worked with over the duration of the loft conversion.Sent him over to all the neighbours who had roofing jobs to be done, & no one had a bad word to say. Can't recommend enough, 10/10 service.

Great guys. Olly and team covered our coping stones with fibreglass and re-leaded mine and my neigbours roofs 3 years ago. Finally the plasterers came to fix the water damage and commented that it was dry as a bone. They also recently insulated and re-felted my roof, and fitted a new Velux on a previous occasion, too. Lovely roofers, very efficient. Recommended.
