Roof and loft insulation for Bristol homes.

Warm-roof upgrades at re-roof time, loft floor top-ups, and rafter-level insulation for converted loft rooms. We do not fit spray foam.

Roof insulation in Bristol

The right insulation, in the right place, done properly.

Most Bristol homes lose more heat through the roof than any other single element. Fixing that is one of the highest-value upgrades you can make, especially in the older solid-wall stock across the city. But the details matter. Insulation put in badly can trap moisture, cause rot, and undo more than it solves.

We fit loft floor insulation, rafter-level (warm roof) insulation, and full warm-roof build-ups at re-roof time. Ventilation is designed in from the start so nothing sweats behind it. And we won’t quote for spray foam. Too many Bristol homeowners have found out the hard way that lenders and surveyors reject sprayed roofs, killing house sales.

Options

Where insulation goes.

Different roofs need different approaches. This is what we fit and where.

Loft floor insulation

Mineral wool laid over the ceiling joists in an unused loft. Cheapest and quickest upgrade for most Bristol homes.

Rafter-level (warm roof)

PIR board between and under the rafters, for lofts that are or will be habitable. Turns the roof space into part of the heated envelope.

At re-roof time

The best moment to upgrade insulation is when the roof is off. Adds cost to the re-roof but saves opening things up later.

What's included.

A proper insulation job is more than dropping wool between joists.

  • Right material for the right place (mineral wool, PIR, sheep's wool where suitable).
  • Correct depth for current Building Regulations.
  • Ventilation designed in so the roof breathes properly.
  • Vapour control layer where the build-up needs it.
  • Existing insulation topped up rather than replaced where sound.
  • Written quote before any work starts.

Why we do not fit spray foam.

Spray foam sprayed onto rafters looks like a quick win. It has caused thousands of UK homeowners real problems.

  • Mainstream mortgage lenders now reject or downvalue houses with it.
  • RICS surveyors flag it, killing sales at survey stage.
  • It hides the rafters, so decay underneath goes unnoticed.
  • It blocks the ventilation the roof was designed for.
  • Removing it is expensive and messy.
  • We would rather do the job properly the first time.
FAQ

Roof insulation questions, answered.

Do you install spray foam?
No, and we won't quote for it either. Mainstream mortgage lenders now refuse or downvalue houses with spray foam on the rafters, and RICS surveyors routinely flag it. If you're planning to sell within the next twenty years, it's a genuine risk. Traditional mineral wool or PIR board is safer, easier to inspect, and does the job.
What's the difference between warm roof and cold roof insulation?
A cold roof has insulation at the ceiling level, so the loft above stays cold and unheated. A warm roof has insulation between and under the rafters, so the loft space is part of the heated house. Cold roof is right for an unused loft, warm roof is right for a converted or habitable one.
Can you top up my existing loft insulation?
Yes, and it's usually the cheapest energy upgrade you can make. Current Building Regulations expect 270mm depth in a loft floor. Most Bristol homes still have less than that. Topping up over what's already there is straightforward.
Will insulation cause condensation?
Only if the ventilation isn't right. Every insulated roof needs somewhere for moist air to escape. We design the ventilation as part of the job. If your existing insulation is causing condensation, that usually means the ventilation was blocked or forgotten.
Are grants available for loft insulation in Bristol?
There are national schemes (ECO4, the Great British Insulation Scheme) that fund loft insulation for eligible households, mostly means-tested. We can talk you through what applies, though the paperwork side of grants is usually best handled by a specialist installer registered for the scheme.
Do you offer a guarantee?
Yes. Workmanship on our insulation work is guaranteed, and materials carry their manufacturer's warranty. Set out clearly in the quote.

These guys replaced our roof that was leaking & falling in on itself in a Victorian terrace in central Bristol. Not an easy job as our house is very skewed (no 90 degree angles whatsoever) but they did a brilliant job. We ended up going with a full dormer, they took down our chimney breast so we had more room & built/sealed the flat roof section with a 25 year guarantee. They gave us some advice on what to do with the front bay as that was shot too.Ollie was incredibly helpful & always pleasant/in a good mood on the job. Really enjoyed having a cup of tea with him & the guys he worked with over the duration of the loft conversion.Sent him over to all the neighbours who had roofing jobs to be done, & no one had a bad word to say. Can't recommend enough, 10/10 service.

Great guys. Olly and team covered our coping stones with fibreglass and re-leaded mine and my neigbours roofs 3 years ago. Finally the plasterers came to fix the water damage and commented that it was dry as a bone. They also recently insulated and re-felted my roof, and fitted a new Velux on a previous occasion, too. Lovely roofers, very efficient. Recommended.
