EWI and new roof, Claverham Road.

External wall insulation on a dated pebbledash semi, combined with a new tiled roof extended out over the thicker insulated walls. One scaffold, one project, two services dovetailed together.

The brief

Warmer house, modern finish, roof that fits.

The owners wanted to add external wall insulation (EWI) to bring the thermal performance up and modernise a tired pebbledash exterior. The catch: EWI adds roughly 100mm to every wall, which means the existing roof overhang no longer covered the new wall line properly.

Instead of handing the two trades to separate contractors, we did both. Our team handled the EWI render system end to end (with our vetted render partner on the final coat), and extended the roof eaves and verges out over the thicker walls so the finished house looks intentional, not bolted-together.

What the job included.

  • EWI boards fitted across the full exterior envelope
  • Silicone render finish in a warm sand tone
  • Roof eaves and verges extended to overhang the new wall line
  • New fascias, soffits and bargeboards in anthracite grey
  • All gutters and downpipes renewed to match
  • Soil pipe reworked around the new wall thickness
  • New windowsills to project beyond the thicker walls
  • 10-year workmanship guarantee on the roofline

Planning EWI? Factor the roofline in now.

EWI makes walls thicker; the roof has to extend to match. We handle both so the finished house looks right.
